RESIDENTIAL INTERIOR DESIGN IN SITGES

Laundry rooms are often one of the most overlooked spaces in the home.

However, when thoughtfully designed, they can make a real difference in everyday life. A practical, organised and easy-to-maintain space makes tasks like doing laundry, ironing or storing clothes much more comfortable.

In residential projects, especially family homes and second residences in Sitges, we increasingly see clients looking for laundry rooms that are both functional and aesthetically integrated with the rest of the home.

In this article, we share some of the key principles we consider when designing a laundry room.

1. Start by understanding how the space will be used

Before selecting materials or colours, it’s essential to understand how the space will actually function.

Is a large amount of storage needed?

Will there be an ironing area?

Is there a need for space to air dry clothes?

Will the laundry room be used daily or only occasionally?

Answering these questions from the beginning helps create a layout that is far more functional and tailored to the home.

2. Prioritise closed storage

An organised laundry room always feels calmer visually.

For this reason, we often prioritise closed cabinetry to store cleaning products, laundry baskets, clothes and small appliances. This helps keep the space visually clean and much more pleasant to use.

In smaller projects, making use of vertical space and custom cabinetry can make a significant difference.

3. Choose durable and easy-to-maintain materials

Laundry rooms are high-use spaces, so materials need to be both practical and durable.

For this project, we selected:

  • soft-toned lacquered cabinetry

  • a durable and easy-to-clean countertop

  • patterned floor tiles to add personality

  • warm finishes to balance the palette

The aim was to create a calm aesthetic without compromising functionality.

4. Pay attention to lighting

Natural light completely changes how a laundry room feels.

Whenever possible, we aim to maximise natural light and use soft tones to make the space feel brighter and more spacious.

Good lighting also makes everyday tasks more comfortable.

5. Design functional spaces that also feel good to use

Even though it’s considered a secondary room, a well-designed laundry room improves the overall experience of the home.

When the layout works well, storage is carefully planned and materials are selected thoughtfully, the space simply feels easier to use.

And that makes a difference.
